Mae Jemison was born on October 17th, 1956 in Decatur, AL.

Mae Jemison was the first African American to travel to space!

She went into orbit aboard the space shuttle Endeauour.

Jemison was born to her dad a maintenance worker and her mother elementary school teacher.

Mae's parents have always supported her to follow her drem in science.

Mae Jemison went to Stanford University in 1977 for four years.

Later she went to Cornell University in 1981.

She studied medical mainly but a little science too.

After receiving an infection, Mae did a science experiment on puss.

When Mae was little she loved all things outside the park, catching at bugs, and even playing in the mud.

Mae was introduced to science at a early age by her uncle, ever since she was little she wanted to be a scientist.

In school Mae took many kinds of dance such as, ballet, jazz, modern, African, even Japanese.

In high school and middle school Mae participated in many of the plays.

Mae decided to follow her childhood dream and applied no NASA's astronaut program, she became one of the 15 candidates to be selected out of 2000 people!

Mae was the youngest sibling of 3.

Jemison was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. but her kings dream wasn't an elusive fantasy but a call to action.

Traveling, graphic arts, photography, sewing, skiing, collecting African art, learning languages, and reading.

Mae has appeared in a few different commercials and even starred in an episode of, "Star Trek."

On the first day of school Mae's teacher asked all the kids what they wanted o be, when she got to may she said, " A scientist."

Jemisons maide space flight came with the one week long September 1992 mission.

Jemison applied to NASA right ater the flight of Sally Ride.

Jemison has received a number of accolades. Including honorary doctorates, a science and technolagy award, the Ebony and Black achievement award.

Throughout school Jemison had a interest in anthropology, archeology, evelution, and astronamy.

Mae applied to Cornell University to go to medical school and persue her interest in intenational medicine.
