With the facts, sizes and predators. Our group thinks that the Moa is much better. The Ostrich is the world’s largest bird now, but the Moa is much bigger and stronger even in it’s era. Though we’ll give the Ostrich props on it’s speed, it’s just not powerful enough to kill a Moa

An ostrich has the largest eye of any land mammal. Their eyes are 2 inches across.

Ostriches have very small brains.

Ostriches don’t really bury their heads in the sand. They do lie on the ground and stretch their necks out to hide when trouble appears.

Ostriches have powerful legs and clawed toes. One strong kick can kill a lion.

Ostriches live in small flocks. One male and female ostrich leads the flock.

The Moa were able to reach 12 feet in height and up to 550 pounds of weight. It was one of the fastest that ever lived on the planet. Females were taller and heavier than males.

Moa was covered with rough feathers that was brown or black in color.

Name "moa" is Polynesian word for fowl.

Moa was ostrich-like bird with small head, stout, triangular beak, long neck, large body and strong legs.

Moa had very long neck that was probably held in horizontal position

For the most of Term 1 and a part of Term 2 we have had the job to pick a topic about animals or native bush and write about it. We have decided to go with an Ostrich and Moa comparison, deciding which is better.

An Ostrich has three Stomachs,

Ostriches usually weigh from 63 to 145 kilograms (139-320 lb)

Adult Ostriches can be from 2.1 to 2.8 m (6 ft 11 in to 9 ft 2 in)in height.

An adult Moa weighs up to 230kg (510 lb). An adult Moa’s height can reach up to 3.6m (12ft) Female adult Moa usually being larger than a adult Male.

A Baby Ostrich is around 10 inches tall, right after birth and is about 3 pounds. An Ostrich’s egg is somewhere between 6 inches.

A Baby Moa is around 3m high and is about 250 kg. A Moa's egg is 18 cm wide and 24 cm long.Small species of the Moa were about the size of a turkey..
