The first confederate flag was made in 1861, but it looked too much like the Union's flag. It represented the Confederacy being different from the Union, as it was similar yet still different.
Recently last year Bree Newsome took down the Confederate in South Carolina, by the capitol. Because the Ku Klux Klan used the flag, it became known as a racist image, and many people were happy that Bree took it down.
They changed the flag another time because of the white background causing it to look like a surrender flag. They changed by adding a red stripe to the right side. This was the flag that represented the Confederate side, and many people respected it.

They changed the confederate flag to the blue cross with the red background as we know it today in the 1900s. This flag was most know because it became the image for the successful war leader Robert E Lee. The flag became a fad for people and it was worn by the rebels.
They changed the flag again in 1863 because it looked too much like the Union's flag. They changed it to the blue cross in the top left part, with a white background. This represented the Confederacy being over the Union, as if it was better.
