"The Road Back" is when the hero is brought back to complete the adventure.
"The Resurrection" is at the climax when the hero is severely tested once more.
The "Road Back is when the alchemist explains what marrying Fatima will cause in the future. He persuades Santiago to keep following his Personal Legend, then go back to marry Fatima.
"The Resurrection" is when the alchemist gives Santiago 3 days to turn into the wind. This is where Santiago is put into a life or death situation. If he can turn into the wind, then his life will be spared, but his life would be taken if he cannot turn into the wind.
'The Reward' is when the hero takes possession of the treasure won by facing death. There may be a celebration, but there is also a fear of losing the treasure.
The 'Call to Adventure' occurs when something persuades the hero to follow his personal legend. This changes the heroes life in a lot of ways and introduces them to a new sequence in life.
"The Reward" is the time period when Santiago reaches the pyramids and begins to dig for his treasure. The actual reward is the treasure, and the journey to find the treasure was life-threatening as he faced the barren desert throughout the travels of his journey. His reward ended up being the treasure found at the abandoned church where the story began with his reoccurring dreams. The tribal warrior who beat Santiago to the bone also told him that he shouldn't have ventured to the pyramids because of a dream as he didn't go in search of an abandoned church when he had a dream about finding treasure there. Santiago then realized that his treasure was at the church he had slept at in the beginning, and realized the point of his journey to the pyramids was that he can mature into a wise and knowledgeable man.
'Crossing the Threshold' is when the hero leaves the 'Ordinary World' and enters a new region.
'The Ordinary World' represents the background and history of the hero. Polarity is pulling the hero in different directions.
Santiago's 'Call to Adventure' is the king of Salem's, Melchizedek's, persuasion of the boy to find the treasure that he had dreamt about. The gypsy indirectly caused the beginning of the 'Call to Adventure' step in the boy's journey by interpreting his dream. Melchizedek introduced the boy to a level of deeper understanding in God's language, omens. The king intended to keep his spirits with Santiago through the stones Urim and Thummim which will answer all objective questions for the boy to help him along his journey to follow his Personal Legend,.
Santiago crosses the boundary between his ordinary life and enters his journey to complete his Personal Legend when he enters the desert and travels along side the Englishman and the caravan journeying to the oasis that the alchemist inhabits. As he travels across the desert he is crossing the threashold into this new region the desert. He is getting a deeper understanding of omens and is learning about alchemy. He is also taking a big step towards fulfilling his Personal Journey.
In the book, Santiago's life before he decides to follow his personal legend is a common life as a traveling shepherd. His parents had raised him to become a priest, studying at a seminary, but he decided to choose his own path. He was born and raised by a farm family on the country side. At age 16 he left his parents household with value of only three gold coins to by his flock of sheep. Since leaving the country side he has traveled the hills of Andalusia, the southern most region of Spain and is very comfortable with his sheep and the environment of Andalusia, until his life takes a twisted turn.
This is where the hero is tested and sorts allegiances.

'Meeting with the Mentor' is when the hero comes across a seasoned traveler who gives the hero advice.
Santiago is tested by the alchemist by having to read omens and understanding what God means when he sends omens to people. This testing shows the alchemist if Santiago is really capable of achieving his Personal Legend and if he had a deep understanding of God. After all the tests Santiago proved himslef to be "the Chosen One". Througout all these tests and throughout the rest of his journey his drive is the love of his life, Fatima . She drives him and pushes him to follow his Personal Legend and he just wants to return back to her and lead a happy life. This is why Santiago keeps pushing towards his goal and returning back to Fatima.

Santiago had many mentors throughout his journey, but the man that really taught him about the rest of his journey and what he would need to get through it. This anonymous man who taught him about omens, how to identify them and to always follow your Personal Legend would be Melchizedek, the king of Salem. Melchizedek showed Santiago what his dream, Gods language, meant in the real world and why he should take the risk of trying to find his treasure in the pyramids and fulfill his Personal Legend.

Pilgrimage: a journey that deepens your understanding of religous beliefs
"Return with the Elixir" is when the hero returns home or continues the journey with some form/element of the treasure that has the power to change the world, just as the hero has done.

Alchemy: a science done in the Middle Ages that transformed ordinary metals into gold
The "Return with the Elixir" stage in Santiago's journey occurs when Santiago returns back to the Al-Fayoum oasis located in the Sahara Desert after retrieving his treasure from the abandoned church, where he had the recurring dream. He returns back to the oasis with a new understanding of the spiritual life around him as a matured man, to reunite with the love of his life, Fatima.
The 'Approach' is where the hero and newfound allies prepare for a challenge.
The 'Approach' step in The Alchemist is when Santiago has a vision that the oasis is going to be attacked, and him telling that to the people who live there. Santiago tells his allies in the oasis his vision, and the area has not been attacked before, so it is very new for them. Based on his message, which was formed from the reading of two flying hawks, they prepare for the attack and defeat their enemies.
'Refusal of the Call' is when the hero attempts to turn away from from the adventure
'The Ordeal' is near the middle of the story when the hero enters a central space in the Special world and confronts death.
"The Ordeal" stage in The Alchemist relates exactly to the "Approach." Since there is an attack coming, Santiago is put in a life-or-death situation. First, if he read the omen wrong, then the chief of the unknown tribe will kill him. Second, wars are dangerous, and he can easily be shot. The oasis was attacked, and Santiago was ceratinly facing death.
Santiago was very successful as a crystal merchant making lots of money selling tea in crystal glasses. As he was making a living in this occupation, Santiago completely forgot about his Personal Legend and finding his treasure in the pyramids of Egypt and was just trying to make enough money to get back his flock of sheep.
