Dress Importance

Social

Women

Due to the respect and scarceness of a womans body, the character Jasim could not save her from a tragic death

"He had not seen a woman's nakedness before; he hadn't seen a woman at all without yards of material wrapped around her, covering her from head to Her black-hennaed feet, and revealing only her eyes behind a gauze opening in the cloth, like two insect caught in a fishing net." (266).

Women in the Islamic/ Muslim religion stay covered mainly for protection. There are also many virtues that come along with it, such as modesty. It is a big part of the religion because it shows strong respect to family, the public and even the woman herself.

Theme

Although there were 17 different stories in this novel, I was able to choose an overall theme. This theme was religion and culture. This theme has a wide spectrum of topics, so I split it into two sub themes:

1. Love and Compassion

2. Devotion
