Irony

The difference between what is expected and what actually happens.

There are three types of Irony

Situational Irony

A situation where the expected outcome and the actual outcome are in conflict.

Example: Our hero rushes in to save the damsel in distress but ends up putting them in greater peril and it is the damsel who saves them both in the end.

Dramatic Irony

Dramatic Irony: When the audience knows something that the characters do not know.

Verbal Irony

Deliberately stating the opposite of the truth with the intention of being amusing

Satires use wit and irony to make an amusing or scathing comment on an absurd everyday practice.
