What exactly was life like in the Middle Ages?

How did the crimes affect the way people lived

The Medieval times were horrible, it was one of the most bloodthirsty eras in history. Torture chambers and dungeons were found in almost every castle. Torture in those days was seen as a way to extract confessions and punish people.

A criminal was seen as someone who had 'disturbed the king's peace'. Conditions in the dungeons were dirty and crowded, if the prisoners survived, they were often executed in public and watched by large crowds.
