The End

So what now?

Theres no way to tell exactly how the universe will end except to wait for it, or somehow manage to travel to the edge of the universe. It's a difficult thing to determine, and definitely reminds that the world beyond our home of Earth isn't all that friendly or forgiving.

The Main Theory

The idea of the end of the universe came along with Einsteins 1916 theory of general relativity, general relativity can be employed to describe the universe on the largest possible scale, and there are multiple solutions to this equation, all of which suggest an end to the universe. several of these ideas were suggested by Alexander Friedman, and Georges Lemaitre in the 1920's. Some of these theories are.....

The Ultimate Fate of the Universe

A presentation on the many theories made about the final fate of the universe as we know it

The Big Rip

The Big Rip is the theory that as the universe expands and continues to accelerate from the big bang, all forms of energy will be accelerating so fast and will be so dense that they will disintegrate into elementary particles and radiation, essentially "ripping" matter and the fabric of time and space into oblivion.

The Big Bounce & The Multiverse

By Jeremy & Mitchell

Earth Science 11

The big bounce is a continuation of the big crunch in that after the big crunch reaches a singularity, it rebounds out into a brand new big bang, creating a new universe and expanse of space. This also goes by the theory of the multiverse in that there are numerous universes that go through this process of expanding and contracting, being reborn every time.

The Big Crunch

The big crunch is the idea that as the big bang created the rapid expansion of space, this is when the energy stops expanding, and in turn begins contracting. one way that is speculated for this to end is to finish in a singularity, leaving no matter or anything left at all. However there is another idea for how the big crunch will conclude, and that is when the universe compresses into a singularity, this event causes a new big bang to occur, which raises the question, has this happened before? and if so, what kind of life existed before now if there ever was?
