Strasberg's Career and Method

Further-er in to his career

-In the workshops, actors were often asked to improvise a scene, with their efforts critiqued by their fellows. The criticism was notably sharp at times, especially that from Strasberg. Those actors who passed through the Actors Studio were highly regarded, but their emphasis on learning their character's motivation for a scene was annoying to some.

Start of Strasberg's Career

-Strasberg met Harold Clurman, who became his close friend. The two spent much of their time discussing ideas for a new theater. In 1931, they joined Cheryl Crawford to found the Group Theatre, a theatrical collective based on Stanislavsky's principles

- Strasberg trained the actors according to his interpretation of Stanislavsky's method.

- Strasberg to begin teaching at the Actors Studio in 1948. In 1951, he became artistic director for the Actors Studio. The opportunity allowed him to fully develop and implement his "Method."

You could say that his career began the year of 1923. This is the year that the Moscow Art Theatre came to New York. Strasberg attended as many performances as possible.

As we said before, Strasberg was greatly influenced by the concept of affective memory

affective memory- called for an actor to use his or her own personal experience to create a living emotion on stage. The actor has to think about that the characters priot life would have been and act as that person would.

-Strasberg enrolled at the clare Tree major school of Theatre under Richard Boleslavski and Maria Ouspenskava. Who were both former students of acting teacher Konstantin Stanislavsky.

-Strasberg learned of the Stanislavsky Method of Acting, which influenced him and his career

-Strasberg was greatly influenced by the concept of affective memory

- During his years of learning, strasberg realized he was more interested in directing than acting.

Marriage

Strasberg was married three times. His first wife was Nora Z. Krecaum, whom he married in 1926. She died in 1929, and the couple had no childern. Strasberg married Paula Miller in 1934, and they had two children. She died in 1966 and Strasberg his third wife, Anna Mizarhi in 1968. They had two children

-Born November 17, 1907 and lived through February 17, 1982.

- Born in Austria- Hungary. In 1908 Strasberg's family emigrated to New York(when Strasberg was 7) They lived in Manhattan's lower east side
