Functions of Common Peripheral Devices

Monitors (cont.)

USB Flash Drives (cont.)

In CRT displays, every line (of the display) are filled using colored electrons.

This concludes our lesson on the functions of common peripheral devices.

Please go to kahoot.it to participate in a short quiz regarding our lesson. Thank you!

For LCD displays, color is made by electric voltages hitting liquid crystal cells.

There is also a poly-silicon structure called the MOSFET which acts as the base of the flash drive.

Monitors

Speakers

USB Flash Drives

There are several types of computer monitors, the most common ones are made with cathode ray tubes (CRT) and liquid crystal displays (LCD).

Analog speakers turns electromagnetic waves into sound waves to produce sound.

Digital speakers produce sound, by turning the digital input into analog form.

In flash memory technology, there are two transistors known as the control gate and the floating gate.

Mouse

What is a Peripheral Device?

Printers

3D Printers

Most printers are programmed using a programming language.

Such languages are split into two large categories; page description languages and printer control languages.

A peripheral device is any device that connects to the computer in some way to contribute to the overall function of the computer.

A 3D printer makes three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. By laying down successive layers of material the object is created. This is called Additive Manufacturing (AM).

The mouse takes your motion and clicks and turn them into signals the computer can use.

The most common component used for picking up motion and location data is the trackball.

Keyboard

Web Cam

Types of Peripheral Devices

The web cam captures light through its small lens by using a grid of light detectors.

The camera is designed to transmit pictures/videos immediately

once captured to the computer.

The keyboard processor analyzes the keys that we press to determine what characters/information they will send to the computer.

-Input devices (e.g. mouse, web cam, and keyboards)

-Output devices (e.g. monitor, speakers, and printers)

-Storage devices (e.g. USB flash drives)
