• Abu Lahab stood up and said, "Have you gathered us for this? May you perish." Therefore Allah revealed the first ayah of Surah Al-Lahab which translated to "Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab and perish he".

• Her and Abu Lahab opposed the Prophets (s) teachings. When paradise was promised to the believers Abu Lahab blew on his hands and said, "May you perish. I can see nothing in you of the things that Muhammad says." Following that was the revelation of Surah Lahab.
1. May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.
2. His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.
3. He will [enter to] burn in a fire [blazing] flame.
4. And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.
5. Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.
• Ibn Ishaq narrated that Umm Jamil was referred to as "the carrier of firewood" because she carried thorns and cast them in the Prophets path.
• Ibh Kathir states that this title referred to her punishment in the Hellfire where she will perish and be helping to administer the punishment of her husband on the Day of Judgement.
We reject the reprobate,
His words we repudiate,
His religion we loathe and hate.
• Umm Jamil went looking for Muhammad (s) one day and happened to come across Abu Bakr instead. She asked him, "For I have been told that he is satirizing me. If I had found him, I would have smashed his mouth with this stone." She then recited a poem and left, not realizing that Muhammad (s) had been sitting next to Abu Bakr.
