Benjamin Franklin Long arm Experiment

Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He worked as a printer, publisher, scientist, author, and diplomat. His father wanted him to enter into the clergy. Ben was the most famous 18th century American who later on signed the Declaration on July 4, 1776. Not only did he sign the Declaration, but he also made new discoveries on electricity.

Some of Benjamin's famous inventions were the lightning rod, stove, bifocals, glass armonica, odometer, and made discoveries about electricity.

The Long Arm

One of Benjamin's commonly used inventions is the long arm. He first invented it with the intention of being able to grab books on high shelves. The Long Arm started off as a piece of wood with two "fingers" attached at the end. By pulling on a cable, he would be able to get a grip on the book with the device.

WHY IT WAS INVENTED

The Long Arm was invented for Benjamin Franklin to reach books that were on higher shelves. He was only 5'11 which became a problem for him when he wanted to grab something on a high shelf. Today it's used to reach objects on higher levels.
