The story is written in third person.Since the characters are mentioned as ''he'' and ''they''.

  • The Ugly Duckling-protagonist.He is a dynamic character since he later grows into a beautiful swan.

Conflict

A duckling that doesn't fit in his born with a group of ducks.Everyone treats him badly so he runs off where someone takes him in for the winter but sets him free when it is spring.He then starts turning into a swan and a group of swans adopt him.

The conflict was that the duckling

was ugly and nobody would accept

him.

When the story begins a mother's egg hatch.One of the little birds is perceived and abused by the other birds and animals.

He is shocked when the swans welcome him and accept him,only to realize by looking at his reflection in the water that he is one of them.

The ugly duckling, now fully grown and matured cannot endure a life of solitude and hardship any more and decides to throw himself at the flock of swans deciding that is better to be killed by such beautiful birds than to live a life of ugliness and misery.

He wanders sadly from the barnyard and lives with wild ducks until hunters slaughter docks.He finds a home with a old woman but her cat and hen tease him off and he sets off again.

He spends a miserable winter alone in the outdoors mostly hiding in a cave on the lake that partly freezes over.
