At the beginning of chapter 6 of The Pearl we find Kino, Juana, and Coyotito struggling for survival to keep the pearl safe while being hunted down. After foolishly believing the pearl would bring them a better life Kino sees a new image in the pearl. The image is of a bleeding body. Another image shown is Coyotito's face swollen as if he were poisoned. Later after the group has been attacked by robbers three out of four Trackers where killed while another Tracker sneaked around and killed Coyotito. Finally as Kino and Juana arrive in the town of La Paz to be greeted by Juan Tomas with his hands open in greetings. At the shores of the ocean Juana and Kino look into the waters and throw the pearl into the ocean, as they stare where the pearl landed the sun sets quietly.
