Phaeacia's Halls and Gardens

Characters

Odysseus- "long an exile" "wordly-wise" Goes to the palace to find a way home

Athena- "bright-eyed goddess" "the one with lovely braids" Drifts a heavy mist around Oddysseus to protect him. Greets him as a young girl and guides him to the palace.

Arete- "white-armed"

Alcinous- Offers Odysseus his daughter's hand in marriage and offers to sail him home

Themes

Hospitality- King Alcinous and Queen Arete feed Odysseus and offer to sail him home.

Weaving- The serving-women in the palace weave at their webs

Major Action/Plot

Odysseus goes to King Alcinous' palace to ask them to help him get home. Queen Arete and King Alcinous feed him and offer their daughter's hand in marraige to Odysseus. They also say that they will sail him home.
