There will be some on your receptive test next week!
Don't worry, they won't be hard!
You will write your answers on the back of the "hallway" paper. Number your paper #1-14.
Title your paper "Unit 3 and 4 Receptive Test."
You will watch me for the signs and write down the corresponding answer.
When we are done, you can use the rest of the time to work on your expressive presentation. It's DUE TOMORROW!!
Audience Etiquette:
All backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. are PUT AWAY! They will not be on your desk.
Cell phones are not to be out.
You need to watch and respect the signer. It is considered rude to be doing something else while there is a presenter in the room.
Check your Google Drive account for all of your videos!!
Part 2
I will sign an ASL sentence. You write the English sentence to match.
Part 4
Label the hallway to correspond with my signs.
One way that ASL is influenced by English is by using CERTAIN fingerspelled words.
Obj: SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of Deaf culture, the uses of American Sign Language, and the expressive qualities of ASL.
In your journal, copy the following notes. Title your notes "When do I fingerspell?"
You may paraphrase these notes.

Remember that fingerspelling is not a substitute for signing. Do NOT spell a word as your first alternative for a sign you don't know.
1.) When you see a FS word, try to see the SHAPE and MOVEMENT PATTERN of the word rather than see each LETTER. Read the whole word as it is spelled. Try to keep your eyes on the signers face.
2.) When you fingerspell words, try to keep your hand to the right of your face and below your chin. Keep your elbow down and close to your body.
3.) Work on the flow of movement and blend of handshapes, rather than producing each letter. Avoid "bouncing" each letter.
.
Everyone needs a white board and a marker.
On a scratch piece of paper, MAKE UP an address for yourself. You can live in any city/state and live on any street. (Keep it appropriate, please! BE CREATIVE!!!)
Also write down if it is an apartment, house, dorm, or condo, plus what color it is.

This person helped found the first state School for the Deaf in America in Hartford, Connecticut in 1817. A memorial has been built in his honor at the school and also at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. Some streets and buildings on the campuses of state Schools for the Deaf and at Galaudet have been named after him.

For each basket that you make, your team will earn 1 point.
If you miss a basket, you get no points; HOWEVER, you can earn a point if you get the answer right.
If you get the answer wrong, the other team CAN steal the question and earn the point.
You can talk QUIETLY to discuss your answers with your teammates.
If the question involves signing, you must have your voice off and sign only!
Even though names are a Proper Noun, if you know a person's name sign, use that instead. Only fingerspell the name if you don't know their name sign.
This also applies to cities and states. Many have their own sign but not EVERYONE knows it. So, just fingerspell it, since they are also proper nouns.
If we aren't mature enough to play this game correctly, we will stop. Please behave and respect each other.
EVERYONE needs to participate in answering questions. Help your team out!!
