hold political office.

-Keeps government close to the people.

-Avoids concentration of political power

The division of powers and functions between the national government and the state governments.

-Federalism creates disadvantages in poorer states and communities, which generally

provide lower levels of education, health, and welfare services; police protection;

and environmental protection than wealthier states and communities.
