As with most things, I think I have good days and I have bad days when it comes to being mindful. I feel like most of the time I am able to respond to stressful events in my life whether they relate to school or work, but there are also times when I'm hit with multiple stressful things at once and I end up reacting to things instead. To deal with stress, I have many different strategies, such as listening to calming music, or talking a walk if the weather is tolerable.
I've noticed that technology plays a huge role in my average day-to-day living experience. Work, school, and my own personal recreational activities all involve technology in one way or another. While it's not always necessarily a bad thing, an excess can oftentimes have negative consequences, such as a general feeling of restlessness that results from a prolonged technology binge. Hopefully by learning to become mindful, I can find ways to avoid using technology for too long.
In my mindful breathing, I became very aware of the sound of my breath. I also noticed a sense of deep calm that came just from stopping to consciously think about breathing. I realized then, that the advice to just focus on breathing when you are in panic mode is actually much more useful than I had thought previously. Pushing all thoughts aside to focus on this simple automatic body function really does help to keep you calm.
My dream life is me as a famous author, but with all my familial relationships still healthy and thriving.
In five years, I hope to find myself living in Colorado, with a high school teaching gig all while working on writing a novel.
I take care of my body by trying to make sure I always get a good amount of rest every day. This isn't always feasible, as I am constantly juggling work and school and my social life, but I know that to get things done efficiently, my body needs its rest and relaxation periods.
The very most important person in my life is my girlfriend. I "show up" in this relationship by always expressing gratitude to her and never holding resentment for anything she does. We live together, and I strive to keep a happy living environment for the both of us by always keeping things positive and fun, whether we're doing housework together or just lounging around.
Of course, my family is equally super important to me. They are, and hopefully always will be, some of my best friends in the whole world!
I include rest in my life by always trying to get a decent amount of sleep (minimum 6 hours) every night. Relaxation comes to me when I allot myself at least a half hour to a couple hours of comfortably lounging somewhere in my apartment and reading a book. I include recreation in my life by spending time on the weekends visiting with my brother or friends and playing video games with them, either in person or online.
