Monophobia is the fear of being alone. No, not physically alone, that's almost impossible in a world of 7 billion people. This is the fear of being ignored, isolated from society, and cast out. though

"Loneliness is not the pain felt when you are alone. It is the pain felt when you are surround by people who do not care."

What history does monophobia have?

There is not a distinctive history of monophobia. As all diseases it has most likely been occurring for years. It is a relatively newly discovered mental disorder.

There are many types of phobias, but as far of monophobia goes, there is only this one type, there are variations ranging from fear of break-up loneliness, to being just plain ignored.

Is monophobia preventable?

The root of this disease is childhood issues, or long term relationship problems. To prevent monophobia, one can try to prevent these types of incidents, and try to have happy and healthy relationships.

Monophobia

What is the current impact of monophobia?

There are no specific statistics regarding monophobia. It is about as prominent in the world as anxiety and depression (not combined).

This disorder can happen at any time in life, however it is most prominent in older teens to 20's.

This disorder does not affect a specific ethnic group.

How is monophobia diagnosed?

It may have fallen into the category of social anxiety. It can be inferred that this disease was not truly diagnosed until recently as most psychological diseases.

A doctor will look for signs of major nervousness when alone, and will ask basic questions about their social lifestyle and past will be asked to try and diagnose this disease. Basically the doctor will look for symptoms of monophobia.

How is monophobia treated?

As with all fears and mental diseases, psychological help is a first step. You can go to a psychologist, who could recommend talk theory, cognitive behavior therapy, or counseling. To deal with physical symptoms, short term drug therapy is very effective. Many people with this fear develop self help strategies to cope with their fear.

There is no magical panacea. Over time, therapy, and possibly medication can help to rid one of this mental disorder.

What causes monophobia?

This type of disorder is not inherited, but supposedly it could be learned. As a child you notice a parent or close adult fear loneliness one may think that that is normal, or if one is neglected during childhood one may begin to fear being ignored by loved ones and friends. However this fear is not translated genetically.

Lifestyle, as mentioned earlier can have an effect. People who do not cope well with social situations, have had bad relationships, or bad childhoods can have the potential to suffer from monophobia. If you fear having monophobia and you stress over it, then you will have a greater chance of developing this fear, because of the added stress.

There is no specific cause, but more often than not, a bad, or neglected childhood is the cause of this fear.

What are the symptoms of monophobia?

Emotional symptoms of monophobia are extreme anxiety, insecurity, and depression. But of course along with those come physical symptoms: feeling unsteady, feeling of choking, rapid heart rate, chest pain, and trembling.
