preparation for Earthquakes/Tsunamis

what to do to the house to reduce damage.

How to reduce EQ damage in houses?

What could be helpful would be to make ure every think holding your house together is tightly connected (roof/walls/support columns). The energy from the earthquake needs to be easily move through the house. Bolt the house to the base of the house.

Some ways to reduce interior damage would be to take everything of the walls to reduce fallen objects. You could also apply rods or hooks to doors/ cabinets so the doors do no swing open allowing objects to fly out. Also bolting movable dresser/ pantries so they don't fall over on someone. Whatever has wheels under them, keep the wheels locked or take them off so they dont roll around.

example:

Seaside, if a tsunami comes towards a flat landed city/ town. It will put communities at high risk of caution. Building will be demolished and lives will be ruined.

How EarthQuakes happen along fault lines?

how a tsunami is created/affects comms/how to survive one?

what is liquefaction?/how it affect us in ptown?

Liquefaction:

1. tsunamis are created when the earth's crust shifts in or out/ drops/ or raises. Which is caused by the fault line moving away from each other or the fault lines break under pressure. 2. Things will be destroyed as well as lives. 3. If someone lives by the ocean (Seaside) then alarms are set to get people to head up hill where its safe.

Liquefaction is cuased by vibrations from earthquakes, shaking the dirt/materials under roads/buildings which can cause major damage to cities.

Earthquakes happen when faults move together. Pressure builds up between the crack causing vibrations within the crust of the earth. This causes earthquakes.

1. Liquefaction is cement and dirt/sand caving in due to the vibrations of earthquakes.

2. Down by the Columbia there will be a lot of liquefaction spots mainly due to the water near by and the he material under the roads (lose dirt/ sand mixture with thin cement above).
