Asthma RT Vocal Cord Dysfunction

Chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Can be developed at any age.

Symptoms of Asthma

  • Persistent cough, Shortness of breath, Wheezing, and Chest tightness.

Common Asthma Triggers

  • Dust mites, Mold, Animal dander, Pollen, Exercise, Infections, and some Medications.

Treatment plan?

  • Asthma Can NOT be cured.
  • Managed using Medications
  • Breathing exercises.

The CDC says that the number of people diagnosed with asthma grew 4.3 Million between 2001 and 2009.

Obesity

Children living within 75 meters of areas of high traffic congestion are likely to develop asthma.

About 70% of Asthma is genetic. If one of your parents have Asthma then you are more than likely going to have Asthma too.

Children who are overweight suffer from Asthma symptoms but it has not yet been correlated that this is lead to Asthma

Smoking

Being around smokers is a trigger. But smoking during pregnancy, or exposure to secondhand smoke, could lead to your child's Asthma.

What is Vocal Cord Dysfunction?

  • Instead of your vocal cords opening up when you breathe in they close. Which blocks air from getting to your lungs.

Symptoms of VCD

Short of breath, Tightness in chest or throat, a feeling of suffocating, coughing and Wheezing.

How many have VCD?

It is unknown since so many cases have been wrongly diagnosed. A small study found that 15% of individuals were diagnosed incorrectly.

Treatment plan?

There is no Medication (Taking Asthma Meds worsens breathing) No cure for VCD
