Florida's State REPTILE:

THE AMERICAN ALLIGATOR

Florida's current State Flag was designed in the 1900's. In the center of the flag is the Florida State Seal. The red crossed bars were added to the original white background so that the white color would not be confused for a sign of "truce" or "no surrender".

Florida's State Reptile is the Alligator. The Alligator lives lin some areas of Florida wetlands as well as in the wetlands of surrounding Southern states. Alligators are cold- blooded animals. You might see them sunning themselfs on sunny banks or at the edges of water.

Florida's Saltwater mammal is the Dolphin or Porpiose, as they are sometimes called. In Florida everyone calls them the Bottlenose dolphins. The dolphins live along the Florida Atlantic and Gulf coasts. They can live up to be 30 years old. Both the Dolphin and Poriose have great eyesight, and hearing but they have no sense of smell. They both have many sounds to use like, barks, clicks, and whistels.
