Self-concept is how you see yourself; it is the image of who you are. Charles Horton Cooley developed the social psychological concept of the Looking-Glass self. This concept is simply that your self-concept is impacted by society's interpersonal interactions with and perceptions of you. One of the sources of self-concept is others’ images of you.
In this third photo, I am taking a selfie of my group of friends and I. On Sundays, when church gets out, we go to a certain spot (for the best lighting) and snap a dozen group selfies; we do it to cherish the times we are all together. If you ask these girls, they would have nothing but positive things to say about me. They would say that I am a hard-worker, high-achiever, and a very wonderful and loyal friend.
All these people I have referred to in my life view me with a positive image. Everyone of them reflect to me how they see me in their emotions towards me. They know me so well, they know not only about my open self but also about my blind self. Because all of them love and support me so much, I must be worth a great deal to them and a very important figure in their lives, just as they are in mine.
Here, I am leaning on the railing upstairs in my old house. This, here, is a very special snapshot because this is the earliest memory I have. My mom had just finished doing my hair, and in excitement, I ran and danced down the hall. My mother, who calls me “My Beautiful Girl” every chance she gets, couldn’t help but capture the moment.
My mom is a very important figure in my life, for she always encourages me in everything I do and is immensely proud of my accomplishments. She always supports me in all my decisions and roots me on. To demonstrate her pride in me, she took many photographs of me to keep and treasure.
This is a photo of me at the end of my second food drive. I asked my whole church, a congregation of less than 400, for help in raising the canned goods. Showing their support for my cause, they trusted me with $265.15 and 381 canned goods. That money went towards buying even more canned goods, and I ended up donating over a thousand pounds of food. My church looks at me in awe and admiration; I am loved by them very much.
My second picture is of me on my second birthday. My eldest brother, to the right, is a very close sibling of mine. What connects us most is our passion for music. My brother, Jonathan, believes I have so much musical potential and enjoys challenging me with different tasks that have progressed me as a musician. My dad, to the left, pushes me academically to make good grades and achieve high. He is the reason I am an all-A student today.
The fifth picture is of my JV basketball team. My best friend and I are the best players on the team. The rest of the team look up to her and I for leadership. My team would describe me as a skillful, active player that leads with confidence and supports her team with encouragement.
