Misconceptions About Evolution

Why is this

misconception untrue?

  • Scientists do not always have fossils to represent each step of evolution.

  • Many fossils can easily disappear or be destroyed.

How are fossils

destroyed?

  • There is a difference between incomplete and expanding.

  • Scientists don't know everything, but just like any other topic, our understanding will increase over time.

  • The theory is complete (thoughts and facts), but it is still evolving.

  • Theory in science = a proven thought
  • Some organisms do not fossilize well.

  • Good conditions:

-Insufficient oxygen

-Low temperatures

-Low soil acidity

Misconception 1:

The Evolutionary

Theory Is Incomplete

Gaps in the fossil

record disprove evolution

Why does this misconception exist?

  • Many believe that because the evolutionary theory is still evolving, it is considered to be incomplete.
  • Scientists do not necessarily know everything about evolution as of now.
  • However, our knowledge is still expanding and will increase with time.
  • Theory of Evolution states that simple life forms gradually evolved to more complex ones.
  • Gaps in the fossil record make it harder for us to see the connections.
  • Certain steps are eliminated.

Why is this

misconception untrue?

Can you still see the connections, even when the diagram is missing a step?
