The falling birth-rate and increasing longevity will cause a shift in demographics from a younger to an older population. By 2040 there will be 379 million elderly. According to the 4-2-1 effect (due to the One - Child Policy) 1 grandchild will have to support 2 parents and 4 grandparents. China will have to find a way to support the dependent elderly without overwhelming taxpayers or families

A problem seen by Demographers in China is a result of the One-Child policy is the unbalanced sex ratio. China has a cultural preferance for male children, leading to the neglect, abandonment or infanticide of female babies. There are now 32 million more boys than girls, under 20 years of age.

Family planning in India is sponsored by the Indian government. Over the last 4 decades, the use of contraceptives has tripled and the fertility rate dropped by over 50%. However, national fertility rates are still high enough to cause a growth in population. An effort for universal literacy is being made, as increased female literacy is correlated with declining fertility rate.

Designated in 1979 under leadership of Deng Xioaping the One-Child policy was to control the population of the state. The One-Child Policy was initially a temporary measure.

India

40 million Dalits, including 15 million children are loaned money for an oppertunity. However they are unable to repay the loan and are obligated to serve the financer, as a form of slavery. Those in debt bondage are sometimes forced to labor in factories

The 160 million Dalits (formerly "Untouchables") face discrimination and violence. As oppressed members of the lowest Hindu strata, they perform menial tasks for very little pay. They are trapped in a cycle of illeteracy, poverty and oppresion.

Designated in 1979 under leadership of Deng Xioaping the One-Child policy was to control the population of the state. The One-Child Policy was initially a temporary measure.

Han Chinese (comprising 90% of the population) couples were encouraged to have a single child, and many incentives were provided to ensure only one child would be born. The policy does not specifically include racial minorities, and those who were single children themselves were allowed to have more than one child.
