Motion fails unanimously.

Insufficient consultation with students.

Two focus groups and a public survey

Members of MSU Inc. commission MSU President to develop a new version of the year end celebration.

Insufficient social media presence.

A concert appeals to some students and not others.

Proposed by Saull that Members of MSU Inc. allocate and expend $40,000 to Campus Events for a year end fair.

The new year end fair offers a variety of programming options for students to choose from.

Event Overview

Plan for Site Visit

Division of Labour

Expected weather report (estimated using data from 1994 to 2012 from JCM Hamilton International Airport):

  • From 2°C to 9°C, rarely below -2°C or above 16°C
  • Sunset at 7:55 pm
  • Party cloudy - mostly cloudy
  • 53% chance of rain at some point during the day
  • Slight rain (39%), moderate rain (10%), thunderstorm (9%)
  • Event will run rain or shine, but will be canceled if there is a thunderstorm
  • Gentle breeze expected throughout the day

Event will run between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm for approximately 4h

Setup/takedown of the site will take approximately 24h on both ends

Event will be sponsored by the McMaster Alumni Association, Student Success Centre and MSU, with additional funding being provided by various campus partners.

The MSU surplus should be spent on other, more worthy causes than a party.

General Science Building

The MSU has run a participatory budgeting project allocating $250,000 of student money on student-submitted ideas. Students will decide which ideas are funded. This has never been an either or proposal, and still is not in its renewed form.

Burke Science Building

Total.................................................................$116,070

Potential Funding Model for Year End Fair

The event description is a vague dream that lacks any substantial planning.

Although this claim was fundamentally incorrect and reflected an elementary misunderstanding of the entertainment industry, the revised year end celebration has a detailed budget, tentative cite plan and consultation from external vendors that will be described today.

Subtotal.....................................$46,900

Concert lacks confirmed financial support from campus partners.

Successful fundraising for the new year end fair demonstrates over $80,000 of support from campus partners, including student groups.

Concert appears to be a one-off presidential legacy that cannot be replicated in the future.

McMaster Alumni Association.....................$40,000

*contingent on MSU match *

Sponsors of the event have expressed interest in repeating this event and can commit financially to its replication. New allocation from the MSU could be easily replicated in the 2015-2016 operating budget, and will be pending MSU Inc. approval.

Student Feedback

Survey emailed to all students and has been live for 35 days. 628 students responded.

Total Fundraising......................$86,900
