Cassius Clay changes his name to Muhammad Ali after converting to the Nation of Islam.
How did Muhammad Ali influence society while changing the sport of boxing?
January 17th marks the day,
In which Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Clay.
He lived in Louisville for his whole childhood,
Which ended up making his life very good.
His school had no bus, so he had to hike,
Until he turned 12, when he got a brand new bike.
The bike was stolen, which made Cassius mad,
But it got him boxing, which wasn't so bad.
He won the Golden Gloves, and Nationals too,
And in the Olympics, Muhammad came through.
He fought Sonny Liston, and Sonny was beat,
He was heavyweight champion of the world, his first major feat.
He converted to Islam, which risked his career,
He was then banned from boxing, for more than a year.
But when he came back, he was still the best.
He fought George Foreman, which was a tough test.
He won however, and was heavyweight champion again,
And the question was no longer if he'd win, but when.
He was the greatest, and still is today,
He is the greatest in every single way.
He changed the sport of boxing, by making it less brutal,
He also got society to believe that black was beautiful.
So in the end, as you can see,
No one will ever be as good as Muhammad Ali.
