Children need to get tech savvy for their future lives

Some parents thought children should be more required to use technology at school. Parents thought they were at a disadvantage not having as much technology growing up.

If its interactive, it must be educational.

Not all parents agreed. Some thought whats the point of them getting an early start in technology if by the time they get older their technology based products will be out of date.

Plowman, L., & Mcpkae, J. (2012). Seven Myths About Young Children and Technology. Childhood Education, 27-33. doi:10.1080/00094056.2013.757490

While there are some products who helpful children learn, there are also some who con parents into thinking there children are learning but really are disguises for entertainment. Some games are tricking children into thinking they're doing something by using their small motor skills; clicking, pressing or scrolling. But in reality they aren't teaching them much about what they're doing.

The concern was for future children's work lives. Parents stated they didn't know what technology their kids will need in the future so it won't hurt to leave their necessity to teach technological skills alone for now

Studies show no technology is sufficiently intelligent enough to enhance a child's reading skills as a real person face to face could.

Play = Learning

There's still many disputes going about if computer games are helpful tools for children to learn. There are four main areas of learning that computer games could be used for. Such as: operational learning, extending knowledge and understanding of the world, dispositions to learn, and the role of technology in everyday life.

Young Chiildren are 'digital natives'

Others believe that kids were born into a digital world and should be allowed to make use of it. Parents are always saying how their 3 year old kids know more about computers than they do. Children growing up these days feel comfortable using their digital natives. Computers are very helpful with schoolwork, or entertaining where they can stay in touch or even meet new friends

Technology hinders social interaction

Although it is helpful, younger kids complain that trying to keep up with older kids in their computer use is too hard. Trying to read, write and use a computer can be a lot of pressure on a four year old

Some believe that the constant need for technology has led to children's lack of interaction with families and friends. Every has that one (maybe more) family member who won't put their phone down at the dinner table. Digital devices can cause the lack of social communication in real life scenarios.

Technology dominates children's lives

Others disagree saying social media or cell phones can help people better communicate. Children are learning how to use webcams or facetime to communicate with their relatives who live far away.

Many people think, if children are in the house playing their games, when does exercise come into play? Studies show that most children don't literally play the game 24/7. But it does seem as though the older they get the more attached they are to technology. Parents are aware that too much technology is a problem but in this day in time it's more of a concern for the families who don't have it.

Childhood and technology shoulnd't mix

Some believe that children at young ages should hold onto their innocence for as long as possible. They believe technology uses disrupts their time to be social with friends, and affects their emotional state. If you play computer games, you can understand how frustrating it can be.

Preschoolers are still developing cognitively and socially and can be much affected if they spend all of their childhood playing computer games.
