Fear continues

No one can have her

I can’t, she is a queen no more

They won’t put her on a throne

Where no one can have her

Final night came and she was

With the saints to rock her….

No one can have her

I can’t, she is a queen no more

Analyzing & Identifying

Gabriela’s literary devices create mood because they add the extra expressions, like she makes the poem more relatable by repeating “I don’t want them to turn my little girl into a swallow” she’s explaining to the reader how her daughter innocents is important to her.

The literary devices add to the theme because they tell you how she is feeling about her daughter being independent. In stanza 2 she states a metaphor by saying “how could she play on the meadow? And when night came, no longer slept by my side.” She is saying that her daughter will grow up and be on her own a not want her help and want to be away.

The Poem

don't know them to turn my little girl into a swallow. She would fly far away into the sky and never fly again to my straw bed, or she would nest in the eaves where i could not comb her hair. I don't want them o turn my little girl into a swallow.

I dont want them to make my little girl a princess. In tiny golden slippers how could she play on the meadow? and when night came, no longer would she sleep at my side. I dont want them to make my little girl a princess.

and even less do i want them one day to make her queen. They would put her on a throne where i could not go to see her. and when nighttime came i could never rock her.... i dont want them to make my little girl a queen
