Hi, I'm Kathleen Lasagne on the managing attorney for volunteer
- 00:05 - 00:08
engagement at the Pro Bono Project, a nonprofit located in
- 00:08 - 00:12
New Orleans, to assist individuals in our community with civil
- 00:12 - 00:13
legal needs.
- 00:14 - 00:17
Today, I'm here to talk to you about volunteering virtually.
- 00:18 - 00:22
We're using a variety of unique technical platforms to outreach
- 00:22 - 00:23
to those in need.
- 00:24 - 00:27
Um, we're finding some emerging issues through our intake that
- 00:28 - 00:30
we received via phone and email, so we'd love to
- 00:31 - 00:33
work with you virtually in order to help address these
- 00:33 - 00:34
individuals. Questions.
- 00:35 - 00:38
At this time, we've been developing frequently asked questions, drafting
- 00:39 - 00:39
short paragraphs.
- 00:40 - 00:43
Two. Um, address those quick needs for individuals.
- 00:44 - 00:46
We'd love to have your feedback if you're able to
- 00:46 - 00:50
draft any of those resource is, but also translating those
- 00:50 - 00:54
materials to the many diverse populations and our community, specifically
- 00:55 - 00:59
Spanish. We've also recently learned that translation of materials into
- 00:59 - 01:01
Vietnamese could also be useful.
- 01:01 - 01:04
But any skills that you have in language needs would
- 01:04 - 01:06
definitely be a resource for us at this time.
- 01:07 - 01:11
In addition to developing written language of materials, there's also
- 01:12 - 01:16
the request for aural language quite frequently asked questions, creating
- 01:17 - 01:20
videos such a bit as this quick five minute videos,
- 01:21 - 01:23
Um, and would also love to discuss the development of
- 01:23 - 01:28
Webinars. Are continuing legal education opportunities later to kind of
- 01:28 - 01:31
address these emerging knees because we do anticipate a high
- 01:32 - 01:35
volume once we're able to return to our works and
- 01:36 - 01:40
schools. Additionally, we have, as I mentioned, a lot of
- 01:40 - 01:43
calls on unique legal issues, and we'd love to be
- 01:44 - 01:45
able to pair you with those callers.
- 01:46 - 01:49
We haven't a coordinator who would be able to direct
- 01:49 - 01:50
those calls.
- 01:50 - 01:53
We also request you let us know I prefer time
- 01:53 - 01:55
when you're available to speak, so we could help coordinate
- 01:55 - 01:56
those calls.
- 01:57 - 02:01
This would just be general information and redirecting individuals to
- 02:01 - 02:04
the resource is we currently have and possibly discuss saying,
- 02:04 - 02:07
submitting an application for the pro bono project volunteer attorneys.
- 02:09 - 02:11
We also are working with the Orleans Civil District Court
- 02:12 - 02:13
and the 24th Judicial District Court.
- 02:14 - 02:17
Our number and email address are is available on their
- 02:17 - 02:21
Web sites to direct any enquiries to representing yourself in
- 02:21 - 02:24
those courts to the self help resource center materials.
- 02:25 - 02:28
Again, what we would do and request is volunteers let
- 02:28 - 02:31
us know their availability, and when people call, we would
- 02:31 - 02:31
direct them.
- 02:32 - 02:34
They're called directly to those volunteers during that time frame.
- 02:35 - 02:37
We'd be happy to provide on training on that to
- 02:38 - 02:39
our clinics are closed.
- 02:40 - 02:42
But we want to highlight well, service's.
- 02:42 - 02:44
We normally do provide so that if this is something
- 02:45 - 02:47
that you're interested in, we certainly will be back in
- 02:48 - 02:48
the community very soon.
- 02:49 - 02:50
This is going to be our child in need of
- 02:51 - 02:52
care, working with foster Children.
- 02:53 - 02:54
Um, and they're they're four cases.
- 02:55 - 02:55
Family law.
- 02:56 - 02:58
We operated great deal of divorces.
- 02:59 - 03:01
We have a divorce paralegal who drafts the pleadings and
- 03:02 - 03:05
volunteers who assists with the notary service's and walking on
- 03:05 - 03:08
the clients through the paperwork consumer debt.
- 03:09 - 03:11
Again, we anticipate that being in flux and this issue
- 03:12 - 03:15
eso we do have outreach community clinics in that regard
- 03:15 - 03:16
as well.

- 03:26 - 03:28
virtually were more than happy to work with you.
- 03:28 - 03:30
