Hi. And welcome to Debbie on the dock.
- 00:03 - 00:03
I'm Dr Debbie Lines.
- 00:04 - 00:06
And I'm really excited to be with you today.
- 00:06 - 00:08
Here on the World Mental Health Day.
- 00:09 - 00:13
You know, I am a strength based psychologist.
- 00:13 - 00:16
Which means instead of looking at what's wrong with you,
- 00:17 - 00:18
I look at what's right with you.
- 00:18 - 00:19
How do we do that?
- 00:19 - 00:24
We develop skills, strategies and techniques in a toolbox to
- 00:25 - 00:28
help you be healthy And well, here's we're gonna do
- 00:28 - 00:31
today. My intention is to give you a skill that
- 00:31 - 00:32
you could go away with.
- 00:33 - 00:35
So have you ever had days where your mood is
- 00:35 - 00:36
up? Your mood is down.
- 00:36 - 00:39
Your mood is all around and you can't figure out
- 00:39 - 00:41
why your sister's bugging you.
- 00:43 - 00:44
Your boyfriend's bugging you.
- 00:45 - 00:47
Your husband isn't doing anything that you need him to
- 00:48 - 00:49
do. School work.
- 00:50 - 00:52
Yuck! Here's what I dio.
- 00:53 - 00:53
Here's what I think.
- 00:54 - 00:56
Before I say anything, I halt.
- 00:58 - 00:59
Am I hungry?
- 01:00 - 01:00
Am I angry?
- 01:01 - 01:02
Am I lonely?
- 01:03 - 01:03
Am I tired?
- 01:05 - 01:05
I halt.
- 01:07 - 01:08
Let's talk about that for one second.
- 01:09 - 01:09
H hungry.
- 01:10 - 01:11
Have I fueled my body?
- 01:12 - 01:15
If I don't fuel my body, then my mood is
- 01:15 - 01:17
gonna be all over the place and I make it
- 01:17 - 01:19
irritable. I'll get low blood sugar.
- 01:20 - 01:20
I make it shaky.
- 01:21 - 01:22
I definitely am not in a good mood.
- 01:23 - 01:24
Then am I angry?
- 01:25 - 01:26
Have you ever been frustrated?
- 01:26 - 01:28
You've just awaken in the morning and you're not sure
- 01:29 - 01:30
why. But everything is bugging.
- 01:30 - 01:32
You might be angry.
- 01:33 - 01:34
How about lonely?
- 01:35 - 01:38
You know, with the pandemic and Covad 19 I think
- 01:38 - 01:42
a lot of people are feeling loneliness and feeling isolated.
- 01:44 - 01:46
That definitely isn't good for your health and well being.
- 01:47 - 01:52
When you're lonely, your mood could be all over the
- 01:52 - 01:55
place and last but not least, tired.
- 01:57 - 01:59
You know, sleep is one of the most important things
- 02:00 - 02:01
for your health and well being.
- 02:01 - 02:05
All of us, whether you're five or 10 or 50
- 02:06 - 02:08
need 5.5 hours of squished.
- 02:09 - 02:10
See, uh, sleep.
- 02:11 - 02:15
And that is consolidated sleep for cognitive restoration.
- 02:16 - 02:21
That means we are rested, our brains can work, and
- 02:21 - 02:23
we're good to go for another day.
- 02:24 - 02:29
So I ask myself, and I ask you when you
- 02:29 - 02:31
really wonder what is wrong with my mood and my
- 02:31 - 02:37
sad my hopeless, helpless, depressed halt and ask yourself one
- 02:37 - 02:38
of these four things.
- 02:38 - 02:40
Could I possibly be hungry?
- 02:42 - 02:44
maybe angry, maybe lovely.
- 02:45 - 02:46
Maybe Just tired.
- 02:48 - 02:50
I want to thank all of you for joining me
- 02:50 - 02:51
here again.
- 02:52 - 02:55
I'm Debbie on the dock and Happy World Mental Health
- 02:55 - 02:56
Day halt!
