Hello, my name is joe phillips and today I'm going
- 00:04 - 00:07
to be talking to you all about vacationing alone.
- 00:08 - 00:11
So to begin with, I would like to show you
- 00:11 - 00:13
all, just a couple of pictures of what I think
- 00:13 - 00:16
about when I think of vacation alone, A perfect vacation
- 00:16 - 00:17
for me.
- 00:18 - 00:21
Um period would just be poolside or beside.
- 00:22 - 00:25
Um, just chilling And lately, you know, I have been
- 00:26 - 00:29
looking into doing independent vacationing or independent traveling.
- 00:30 - 00:33
Um, and hopefully after this presentation I leave you a
- 00:33 - 00:37
little bit more optimistic about this subject considering it is
- 00:37 - 00:38
a little bit unorthodox.
- 00:39 - 00:42
So the first thing that I would like to talk
- 00:42 - 00:43
about is just some benefits.
- 00:44 - 00:49
I got to these benefits from a Forbes article titled
- 00:50 - 00:53
seven science Bath reasons people should spend more time alone.
- 00:54 - 00:55
These are just a couple of them.
- 00:56 - 00:58
The first one would be helps mental strength.
- 00:59 - 01:01
Um, you know, just being alone in general.
- 01:02 - 01:06
I think it's important for people to, you know, get
- 01:07 - 01:09
to know themselves a little bit more and just have
- 01:09 - 01:13
a big backbone for who you are as a person
- 01:13 - 01:15
and what you think about yourself and you know, especially
- 01:15 - 01:16
while we're in college.
- 01:17 - 01:20
Um, I think it's important that you are aware of
- 01:20 - 01:22
what you like and you know, it just makes things
- 01:23 - 01:25
smoother. It makes you happier if you're doing things that
- 01:25 - 01:26
you want to do.
- 01:27 - 01:29
Uh and the second thing I put no outside influence
- 01:29 - 01:30
if you're by yourself.
- 01:31 - 01:32
You know, there's no pure pressure.
- 01:33 - 01:35
You're strictly just spending time on things that you want
- 01:35 - 01:38
to do and I think that's just very important to
- 01:38 - 01:39
the re selfish every now and then.
- 01:40 - 01:42
And the third thing I put is helps you get
- 01:42 - 01:43
to know yourself better.
- 01:44 - 01:46
Again, just going back to the mental strength.
- 01:47 - 01:49
I think it's important for you to spend time thinking
- 01:49 - 01:52
about and doing what you want in order to get
- 01:52 - 01:55
to know yourself and have you know better secure bond
- 01:55 - 01:55
with yourself.
- 01:57 - 02:00
So going off that I wanted to make sure that
- 02:00 - 02:02
list some self care practices that you can practice put
- 02:03 - 02:06
on vacation that can just help you destroy de stress
- 02:06 - 02:07
and relax a little bit.
- 02:08 - 02:10
The first thing that the is taking naps I know
- 02:10 - 02:13
for me, a big part of my life is school
- 02:14 - 02:16
and work and time to really get a lot of
- 02:16 - 02:19
time to you know rest and take action maps and
- 02:20 - 02:21
you know, spend a lot of time doing stuff like
- 02:22 - 02:24
that. So that would definitely be something that I want
- 02:24 - 02:24
to catch up on.
- 02:25 - 02:27
The second thing I put is journaling.
- 02:28 - 02:30
I think it's really important to get things off your
- 02:30 - 02:32
chest that you might not be able to get off
- 02:32 - 02:35
your chest when you're around other people just to give
- 02:35 - 02:36
yourself some peace of mind.
- 02:37 - 02:38
And then the last thing I put it to meditate
- 02:39 - 02:41
again, I think, I think that's just a good way
- 02:41 - 02:44
to relax and you know, kind of let go whatever
- 02:44 - 02:46
you're thinking about, maybe do breathing exercises.
- 02:48 - 02:50
Um I think it's just important to practice stuff like
- 02:51 - 02:53
that and what better time than when you're on vacation
- 02:53 - 02:54
by yourself.
- 02:56 - 02:58
I know those things are probably things that you think
- 02:59 - 03:01
you could just do at home, you don't have to
- 03:01 - 03:02
go on vacation to do.
- 03:02 - 03:04
So I did want to list some things that you
- 03:04 - 03:05
could do on vacation.
- 03:06 - 03:08
The first thing I put is a spa day.
- 03:08 - 03:12
So for me personally, I that would be one of
- 03:12 - 03:14
the first things I would think about doing on vacation.
- 03:15 - 03:17
Um pretty much anywhere you go, you're going to have
- 03:17 - 03:19
the opportunity to come get your nails done hair, to
- 03:20 - 03:22
get a massage, anything like that.
- 03:23 - 03:26
And I just think it's important to treat yourself like
- 03:26 - 03:30
that. The second thing I put aside see most likely
- 03:30 - 03:32
if you're going on vacation you're going to be in
- 03:32 - 03:32
a new area.
- 03:33 - 03:36
Um I think it's important to go sea going experience
- 03:36 - 03:40
do things without doing activities or just going around and
- 03:40 - 03:40
meeting new people.
- 03:42 - 03:43
I'm, the last thing I put is treat yourself.
- 03:44 - 03:47
I know some people like retail therapy or you know,
- 03:47 - 03:48
take yourself to a nice dinner.
- 03:49 - 03:51
You know what whatever it is.
- 03:52 - 03:54
I think it's important that you treat yourself on vacation
- 03:54 - 03:55
for sure.
- 03:59 - 04:02
All right, so I just wanted to leave this topic
- 04:04 - 04:06
with a quote.
- 04:07 - 04:13
I got this quote from a article titled the positivity
- 04:13 - 04:16
blog and it just says self care is never a
- 04:16 - 04:16
selfish act.
- 04:17 - 04:20
It is simply good stewardship of the only gift I
- 04:20 - 04:22
have, the gift that I was put on this earth
- 04:22 - 04:24
to offer to others by parker palmer.
- 04:25 - 04:29
Um I like this quote just because you know, it
- 04:29 - 04:32
just to me it says that it's okay to be
- 04:32 - 04:36
selfish every now and then um because it's for the
- 04:36 - 04:39
greater good, you know, to better yourself for others so
- 04:39 - 04:41
you can do you know what you're made to do
- 04:42 - 04:43
every day at the best to the best of your
- 04:43 - 04:47
ability. Um and I just think taking a vacation by
- 04:47 - 04:51
yourself offers you know every way for you to do
- 04:51 - 04:54
that and to take advantage of just charging up so
- 04:54 - 04:56
you can go out there and be the best you
- 04:56 - 04:57
can be for everybody else.
- 04:57 - 04:58
Thank you for listening.
