Hello.
- 00:02 - 00:06
My name is Tanya Lit and I am excited to
- 00:06 - 00:12
be in the applied dissertation one prospectus course this summer.
- 00:13 - 00:16
Um My educational experiences. Um
- 00:18 - 00:22
I attended um a community college right out
- 00:22 - 00:25
of high school and then transferred to Auburn
- 00:25 - 00:29
University at Montgomery where I obtained my um
- 00:29 - 00:34
bachelor's of Science in secondary education mathematics.
- 00:34 - 00:39
Um and I taught math grades six through 8
- 00:40 - 00:46
For the first three years of my educational um career.
- 00:46 - 00:51
And then I went on to teach 8th grade for a little while
- 00:51 - 00:55
And then I moved to a school that was a very small school and I taught
- 00:55 - 00:59
seventh through 12th grade math there for about
- 00:59 - 01:04
nine years before transitioning into the administrative role.
- 01:04 - 01:06
I went back to a um
- 01:06 - 01:12
and received a master's and an E. D. S in instructional leadership.
- 01:12 - 01:15
And um I transitioned into the administrative role and I
- 01:15 - 01:19
was the assistant principal at a high school in a
- 01:19 - 01:22
completely different district than the district that I grew up
- 01:22 - 01:25
in the in the district that I started teaching in.
- 01:25 - 01:32
So that was new for me it is the district that I am currently still in right now. Um
- 01:32 - 01:36
After starting that administrative role as the assistant
- 01:36 - 01:40
principal at the high school and then transition into
- 01:40 - 01:43
a central office position where I was the
- 01:43 - 01:46
math specialist for the district for a few years
- 01:46 - 01:50
and currently I am finishing up my first year
- 01:50 - 01:55
Back in the classroom. I am teaching 7th Grade Math on the teams
- 01:56 - 01:59
um program that our governor signed into law.
- 01:59 - 02:04
Um for teachers that have specialized training in math and
- 02:04 - 02:08
science as I am National board certified in Math,
- 02:08 - 02:13
so therefore um I was able to partake on one of those um contract.
- 02:13 - 02:15
So I was very excited about that.
- 02:15 - 02:16
Um
- 02:16 - 02:20
something about myself that is very interesting.
- 02:20 - 02:25
Um is that I wear a lot of hats. Um
- 02:25 - 02:28
I'm a teacher, I'm a mother of four.
- 02:29 - 02:33
Um my oldest son is 22, my daughter is 21.
- 02:33 - 02:35
I have a daughter who just graduated from high school,
- 02:35 - 02:38
she'll be 18 in a few weeks and she was the
- 02:38 - 02:43
valedictorian of her graduating class and our baby is 12,
- 02:43 - 02:47
so I'm a mother and balancing all of their activities with my own.
- 02:47 - 02:51
I'm also very active in our church.
- 02:51 - 02:55
I am a minister um worked very closely with my pastor
- 02:55 - 03:00
and I'm also the bookkeeper and finance director at our church,
- 03:01 - 03:05
um also one of the directors for our community organization
- 03:06 - 03:10
And we do a lot of outreach to the communities who are very active with that.
- 03:10 - 03:13
So um I have a lot of hats. In addition to all of that.
- 03:13 - 03:19
I am serving as a primary caregiver for my grandmother who is 81 years old,
- 03:19 - 03:21
she'll be 82 in a few weeks.
- 03:21 - 03:24
Um she lives with me and my family
- 03:24 - 03:31
and she has um dementia and several other health conditions and so we're
- 03:31 - 03:33
just thanking God for the time that we have with her now.
- 03:33 - 03:35
So I have a lot going on.
- 03:35 - 03:37
In addition to all of that,
- 03:37 - 03:42
I have decided to obtain my doctorate degree in rural education
- 03:43 - 03:47
and um the topic that I will be hoping to
- 03:47 - 03:53
stick with for my dissertation is um determining whether or not
- 03:53 - 03:55
there is a statistically significant
- 03:55 - 03:58
difference between the achievement levels and
- 03:58 - 04:03
scores of rural students versus non rural students on the map
- 04:03 - 04:04
on the math.
- 04:04 - 04:08
Excuse me, A cap assessment, that is our state's accountability assessment.
- 04:09 - 04:13
Um I am a math teacher, so my dissertation will focus um
- 04:14 - 04:16
on math to some point.
- 04:16 - 04:25
My biggest fear with my dissertation is that I will get a certain distance through
- 04:25 - 04:29
the journey and just run out of things to say or
- 04:29 - 04:32
um that I will get halfway through the journey and said,
- 04:32 - 04:35
oh no, maybe I should have done something else.
- 04:35 - 04:38
So that's one of the things um a couple of things that's been
- 04:39 - 04:42
um plaguing me as far as starting this process.
- 04:42 - 04:45
Um So I'm excited to be in this course and
- 04:45 - 04:48
hopefully we can calm some of those fears down.
- 04:48 - 04:52
And I am looking forward to working with each and every last one of you,
- 04:52 - 04:55
thank you and um see you guys soon
