Interesting Facts:

Not just a man can fish a women can fish and get the food for the family.

They don't live in Asia as they live in Taiwan.

They only live in Taiwan.

They speak Tao and some people can speak English and Tai.

Religion:

Their religion is just like us they are christian and believe in god but they have like the flying fish and much more.

The meaning of Yami:

Social Organization:

The Yami call themselves Tawu which means people. The term Yami comes from a Japanese person by the name of Niaoju Lungtsang. In 1995, young Yami people established the Tawu Association intentionally changing the name Yami to Tawu.

Where there from and population:

Yami people live near the Philippians, were they live is Lanyu Island they also live in Taiwan . Their population in Taiwan is around 2,900 people.

Unique Customs:

Flying Fish Culture is unique to the Yami tribe every March. Tails of flying fish would frequent the waters of Lanyu Island, hitching a ride with the returning “kuroshiro current (black tide). Yami tribesmen would hold “Flying Fish Calling Ritual”, thereafter they would seine for the catch. Different fishing methods are used in different months for catching different fishes. This practice not only coordinates with marine life ecology, but seasonal limitation on eating flying fish also prevents human greed from excessive fishing.
