Why is it important?
Adomaitiene provides an example of this distinction. Adomaitiene notes that the disabled face many social problems and are at times considered a social problem. The sociological problem would be why discrimination occurs and how disability is constructed as a social problem.
Social Problem
A social problem can be defined as a behaviour that causes public friction usually involving some form of public outcry or call for action. It is important to note that a social problem is always defined from the perspective of the powerful.
Sociological problem
Social and sociological problem is at the heart of what sociologists do since their work involves finding ways to understand the why people interact with others in a certain way. They are tasked with helping us to find ways to make our interactions more peaceable and help us find ways to deal with social problems.
There are two main definitions for sociological problem. The first is that societies have to solve certain fundamental problems first if they are to survive. The second definition is that sociological problem is a problem that demands explanation.
Painter and Farrinngton (1997)

Another example of the Social/Sociological problem relationship is the Painter and Farrington study. They studied the relationship between street lighting and crime. The study showed that the better lit the street the less crime is experienced. The sociological problem was addressed(how changes to the physical environment alter behaviour) and a solution was given to the social problem(crime).
