CODE ADAM ALERT PROGRAM
STEP 5
If the child is found accompanied
by someone other than the
parent or legal guardian:
To help protect children in our facility,
we've instituted CODE ADAM. These are
the steps to follow when an alert is announced.
- Use reasonable efforts to delay the departure of the adult accompanying the child.
- Do not put yourself, the staff or people around you at risk!
- Get the description of the person accompanying the child and call the police.
STEP 3
If the child is not found within 10 minutes, call the police.
STEP 1
- Don't hesitate...the police would rather get a second call saying that the child has been found, then discover too late that the child has been abducted.
OBTAIN A DETAILED DESCRIPTION
OF THE CHILD
- Name, age, hair color, eye color
- Approximate weight & height
- What the child is wearing- color/type of clothing
- Most importantly shoe color & style
STEP 6
STEP 2
Conclude the incident
by saying "CODE ADAM Cancelled".
Go to the nearest in-house phone & page
"CODE ADAM". Announce the description
of the missing child.
- All staff will respond by walking to the nearest door.
- What if all doors are taken? Do I go back to my desk?
- Keep everyone inside the building and explain that there is a missing child.
- The one that got away...what do I do?
STEP 4
Facility management must report the incident to HR.
If the child is found and appears
to have been lost and unharmed,
reunite the child
with parent or guardian.
