Nazi Concentration Camps

Historical Fiction Project

The camps were located in and around Germany and Poland.

Phase 4a: Women, children, and all other people deemed unfit to work are sent to the gas chambers, where they are killed.

Thesis: Concentration camps, run by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party were among the most cruel places ever to be constructed, killing and torturing millions of people.

Topic Connection to Book: the concentration camps are related to my book because the character (in the book) is eventually transported to a concentraiton camp, and briefly describes her experiences (at the end)

Phase Two: The People endure a journey in the cattle cars that can last up to three weeks. They are given almost no food or water. Many people die from starvaion and disease.

Phase Three: People (now prisoners) are taken off the trains and into the concentration camp. They are then separated in two groups: women, children , and the elderly, and men, and teenagers.

  • Phase One: People are herded from their homes by Nazi soldiers, and taken to a train station, where they board a train of cattle cars. These cars are very unsanitary and can become very hot.

The prisoner's uniforms looked like this(left):

Who Was Prosecuted?

This is a cattle car. When the victims were loaded, they were loaded far above capacity, increasing the spreading of disease and overheating.

Phase 4b: Men and teenagers are shaved, tattoed, issued uniforms, and sent to barracks.

Book: The Final Journey

Author: Gudrun Pausewang

THE END!

Prisoners were given little or no food, and forced to do hard labor in extreme cold and heat. The food was often spoiled, so many prisoners died of disease and starvation.Dysentry and typhus were common.

Eventually, all survivors were freed from Nazi control and rehabilitated.

As the German army retreated and the Allied forces advanced, The Nazis forced the remaining prisoners to march many miles in extreme cold.Anyone who stopped was killed.
