Choose your "notetaking" weapon of choice

You'll want to be able to save links, write notes about them, and be able to get back to your info at all times.

Set-Up

Using your tool of choice, set up three areas for the three questions and one specifically for sources.

As you find information, you will note it in the area related to that question making sure to note what source you retrieved it from.

Therefore, it might be easiest to number or letter your sources (which should be kept all together in a separate section) so you can easily tell where it came from.

Step Three:

Using what we learned about Google search tools, Wikipedia, and what you already know start collecting research about your site.

When you find a good source do the following:

1.) Skim the article or information to make sure it can help you answer one of your questions

2.) Immediately copy the source information down or as much information as you can find. Can't remember what you need when you site? Look here:

3.) Pull out information that is useful. Either re-write immediately in your own words, or when copying and pasting make sure to use quotes to remember to re-write or quote later on. Also note the source right then and there.

Step Four

Using any tool you've used before or learned about in this class, put together a "presentation" to tell us about how your website/tool is or has changed the world.

For instance you could use:

  • PowerPoint
  • Prezi
  • Glogster
  • MovieMaker
  • Anything else you can think of?

But here's what it has to do:

Make sure it teaches us about all the answers to the critical questions

If it is that interesting, show us. Use pictures, media, and links to websites.

Your opinion and notes are valuable, but prove them to us.

What makes a good site good?

Ask yourself 3 questions every time you come upon a source. If you can't get good answers for these questions, keep looking for other sources.

Who?

Who wrote this?

  • How do you know they know what they are talking about?
  • Expertise? Experience? Or...Magic?
  • Look for credentials, try to see if they are legit.

Why?

Why did they write this?

  • What is the main purpose for the site?
  • To educate? Provide history? To sell you stuff?
  • Is there bias?

Of course I believe you 7up....why would you not want to help my baby? What's that? You make money off doing this?

When?

When did they write this?

  • As events unfold, stories change
  • Check for relevant/recent dates
  • Use a news search to see current stories and results

Wait a minute....

---> Change what you're searching for

---> Use modifiers/options to clarify

---> Pay attention!

change the world?

How did

Step One:

Set up your search around 3 critical questions

What was the inspiration?

What was/are the main impacts of this tool?

  • Social, cultural, technological, in business, or something else?

What was the original intent?

How did it come to be created?

Who was involved in it's creation?

How did it become a game changer?

Were their speedbumps along the way?

What was the timeline for it's popularity?

Step Two:

Ready yourself for research

Microsoft Word

What else?

EverNote

PowerPoint
