In chapter 3 it starts off by telling us that all of the people have left and it was not just Mac, Ian and a whole lot of dishes. Ian starts off by bringing in some of the dishes to Mac, who was in the back kitchen. Ian had really thought there was at least 2 more people helping Mac in the kitchen because the food came out faster then anyone could cook. After Ian cleaned a dish or two he started to think why he pick this job, he could have picked something easy, his thought was soon interrupted by Mac who was just handing off the last of the dirty dishes
When Mac had finally joined in on helping Ian clean, he mentions that he could just leave and Mac could do the dishes by himself, but Ian replied that somebody eventuality got to do it. Then Mac goes on to tell Ian that he likes him and most of the people that come to help out are all do gooders and they all treat the homeless like there some charity and act like their saving them or something. Then he says Ian reminds him of him self when he was young. After they finish with the dishes Ian goes home and the chapter ends.
In chapter 1 it started off by introduces us to a young high school boy who has to pass his civics class to get a new car from his dad. The only way he can pass civics class is to do volunteer work, Ian(the main character) is late for his volunteer job(The Club) so he has a great idea to cut through a park to get there faster. Well lets just say it didn't end up OK because after Ian meets a random homeless man on a bench the runs into not 2 but 3 thugs trying to steel his coat and wallet. After these thugs take his coat, out of no where the homeless man Ian meet earlier comes out and brutally beats the living crap out of the 3 thugs. Then jack(the homeless man) decides that it will be much safe for Ian if he walks him the rest of the way. When they get to the end of the park jack makes Ian promises him that he will never come back to the park at night again. Ian is walking the rest of the way by himself now because the park is across the street.
