The selfish giant

Redemption

The Garden

The giant became a better person when he changed his attitudes

It represents the giant's heart. Because he treated the children in mean manner, his heart was cold, much like a permanent winter.

Dynamic character: He changes from a person who dislikes children and is selfish to a kind person who loves children.

Round character: It is the most developed character of the story. We learn that he is a selfish and serious individual, who protects the ones he loves. Later in the story we learn that he cares of children, and that he is regretful of all his past attitudes.

Rewarding Actions

The Children

Snow and Frost

The story also indicates that we should treat other people in the way we would like to be treated, as those attitudes would bring rewards to our lives

It represents the giant's solitude. It also

reinforces the importance of children in

the giant's redemption.

Flat and Static characters:

These are little kids who come and play in the giants garden when they are on there way home from school. The author doesn't include further details about these children.

Tiny kid/Jesus Christ

The Wall

Dynamic character: He suffers a physical transformation near the end of the story. While he was a small kid at the beginning of the story, he later appears to the giant as a person "wounded by love".

Round character: He is not a deeply developed character. We only know that he loves the giant and that the latter's act of kindness allowed the main character to earn his entrance to Heaven.

It represents the giant's unwillingness to accept other people in his life. It reflects his isolation. When the children break his wall, it reflects the giant's change of mind towards people
