Cell Wall VS Parking Lot Tolls
The Cell Wall
Cell Wall Definition
The cell wall is similar to the parking lot tolls because like the cell wall protects the cell, the parking lot tolls protect the park because that is the first thing you have to get through before you enter the park.
A cell wall is an inflexible barrier that provides support and protects the plant cell. Cell walls are not apparent in animal cells. It is made of a carbohydrate called cellulose which gives it the inflexibility.
Mitochondria VS Electrical Outlets
Endoplasmic Reticulum VS Rides, Stairs, & pathways.
Mitochondria
Transport Proteins VS Park Entrance/Exits
Mitochondria Definition
Mitochondria converts fuel particles into usable energy. It also has an outer membrane and an inner membrane that provides an area for breaking the bonds into sugar molecules which is used for respiration.
Mitochondria VS electrical outlets
The mitochondria is like the electrical outlets because they use electricity to power the rest of the park.
Transport Proteins Description
TRANSPORT PROTEINS VS ENTRANCES/EXITS
TRANSPORT PROTEINS
The function of transport proteins is allow movement of molecules in and out. Diffusion is the net movement of the particles from an area with many particles, to an area with fewer particles.
Transport proteins are similar to the entrances and exits of the park because the doors allow movement of people into the park just like transport proteins move molecules in and out of the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Definition
E.R vs Rides, Stairs, and Pathways
The endoplasmic reticulum serves for the cite of protein and lipid synthesis. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is the site of protein synthesis and the smooth E.R detoxifies the liver.
The endoplasmic reticulum is like the stairs, rides, and pathways because they provide a place for work to take place.
The Cell Amusement Park
Cell Membrane vs Fences
The similarities between a cell and an amusement park
Ribosomes VS
Park Workers
Cell Membrane Description
The Cell Membrane
The cell membrane is similar to the fences because like the cell membrane, fences surround the park area. By doing this, it's keeping the park safe, or in the case of a cell membrane, it's keeping the cell safe.
The function of the cell membrane is to surround the cell. It is a lipid bilayer that contains cytoplasm. Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
RIBOSOMES VS PARK WORKERS
RIbosomes produce protein for repairing structures. Bound ribosomes produce proteins that will be used by other cells. Free ribosomes produce proteins which will be used within the cytoplasm of the cell.
Ribosomes are similar to the park workers because park workers are constantly doing work to improve the park like the ribosomes do work to repair structures of the cell.
The Nucleus vs The Park Manager
The Nucleus
Golgi Apparatus VS Mailbox
Golgi Apparatus
Lysosomes VS Garbage Cans
The Nucleus Definition
The nucleus is the main control center of the cell that contains a nucleolus, which is responsible for ribosome production. It is also surrounded by a nuclear membrane that contains nuclear pores.
Golgi Apparatus VS Mailbox
Nucleus VS Park Manager
The golgi apparatus is similar to the mailbox because the mailbox sorts and sends packages around just like the golgi apparatus.
The nucleus & the park manager are similar because the park manager is like the one who decides when, where, and how things need to be done.
Golgi Apparatus Definition
Lysosome Description
Similarities between Lysosomes & Garbage Cans
The golgi apparatus is a flattened stack of membranes that modifies, sorts, and packages proteins into sacs called vesicles.
The function of the lysosome is to take waste and break it down using digestive enzymes. Technically, it is a vacuole.
The lysosome is similar to the garbage cans because like lysosomes, garbage cans allow a place for waste to be discarded and eventually broken down.
Vacuole VS Cash Register
Definition
The vacuole is a sac used for food storage, enzyme storage, and storage of other materials needed by the cell. Some vacuoles store waste products.
Vacuole VS Cash Register
The vacuole is like the cash register because the cash register stores people's money, whether it was money well spent or money wasted.
