NICK

FRINDLE

MRS.GRANGER

Chapter 2: Mrs. Granger

Chapter two describes what

kind of teacher Mrs. Granger

is. Mrs. Granger is Nick's 5th

grade language arts teacher

who loves the dictionary.

Mrs. Granger is “all business,” she is very

serious and strict. Nick thinks it will be

a rough year.

THE QUESTION

WORD DETECTIVE

AND THE WINNER IS...

Chapter 15: And the

Winner Is…

In the last chapter, it

was 10 years later

when Nick was a junior

in college. The trust fund that his dad set up from the frindle stuff was now Nick’s, so he was rich! Mrs. Granger sent Nick the letter from 10 years ago and a dictionary with the word frindle in it. Nick used his money to make a scholarship fund named for Mrs.

Granger.

INSIDE NICK

RIPPLES

Chapter 14: Inside

Nick

Chapter 14 is about

how Nick’s ideas were

good but they scared him. Nick had a good idea about how every kid would pack their lunch and not buy, but he kept it to himself. He was afraid that he would get in

trouble. So for the rest of the

year Nick was quiet and didn’t

talk unless called on.

Chapter 13: Ripples

In chapter 13, “frindle-mania was over” but the word wasn’t gone. Teachers and kids both still used the word. It became like using any other word, like dog or hat. Frindle was no longer just in Westfield, it was all over the globe.

THE REPORT

AIRWAVES

Chapter 12: Airwaves

This chapter is about how Nick became sort of a hero to the kids of Westfield. Everyone in town knew who he was because he invented the word frindle. Nick went on TV and talked about why he invented the word. Then a businessman made t-shirts and sunglasses and other things with the word frindle on it.

EXTRA!EXTRA!

READ ALL ABOUT IT

Chapter 11: Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

In chapter 11, the Westfield Gazette was delivered to everyone in Westfield. The title of the article was “Local 5th Grader Says, Move Over Mr. Webster.” The article was about the word war over the word frindle. The teachers wanted to keep the word pen, and the students wanted the word frindle. Now everyone in town knows the word frindle.

Westfield Gazette

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS

Chapter 10: Freedom

of the Press

Chapter 10 tells how

Judy Morgan, a reporter

for the Westfield Gazette, decided to report on frindle. She went to Lincoln Elementary and saw the detention sign, talked to the secretary, and the principal. The principal said it was a prank that needed to be stopped.

The reporter wrote a story in the

newspaper.

CHESS

THE BIG IDEA

Chapter 9: Chess

This chapter is when the principal, Mrs. Chatham, came to Nick’s house. Mrs. Chatham tells Nick’s parents about the trouble he is causing at school. Nick’s mom thinks it’s all a bunch of silly nonsense. To Nick it’s like a game of chess between his mom and Mrs. Chatham.

MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

Chapter 8: Mightier

than the Sword

In chapter 8 it is

school picture day.

Instead of the kids saying “cheese” they all said “frindle” and held up a pen. Mrs. Granger said that anyone who uses the word frindle will stay after school. The fifth graders wouldn’t stop and tons of them had to stay after school.

Chapter 5: The Report

This chapter is about Nick giving his oral report. Nick was frightened that he wouldn’t do a good job. Nick forgot a title for his report. In the end, Mrs. Granger thought Nick did a great job.

Chapter 6: The Big Idea

In chapter 6 Nick had a

big idea on the way

home from school. He

was walking home with

his friend and they found a pen. Nick called the pen a “frindle.” He and his friends made up an oath to always say “frindle” and to get others to do it too.

WORD WARS

Chapter 7: Word Wars

Chapter 7 is about when

Nick started using the

word “frindle” in school.

Nick said, “Mrs. Granger,

I forgot my frindle.” Nick’s friend John made a big show about finding an extra frindle during class. Mrs. Granger was very unhappy that Nick changed the word and was causing trouble.

Chapter 3: The Question

In this chapter, Nick

meets Mrs. Granger for

the first time. Nick was great at asking teachers delaying questions. At the end of class he asked her a question about her dictionaries hoping she would get side-tracked and not give homework. His idea backfired and the class got homework and he had to do an oral report too.

Chapter 4: Word Detective

In chapter four, Nick is busy doing homework. He has to do 35 vocabulary words. Then Nick has to write his oral report. Nick's parents always say do homework first before you play.

Chapter 1: Nick

This chapter is about

all of Nick's ideas to

get attention. One day

Nick turned the classroom into a beach.

Another example was when Nick made

a high-pitched blackbird peep during

class. In chapter one, Nick has a lot

of silly ideas.
