What is their mission

YPI Project

To protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.

When, how and by whom was it found

BC SPCA was found in 1896. A committee of individuals concerned with animal protection was formed to create the BC SPCA bylaws; the first meeting of the BC SPCA was held in New Westminster in 1896.But the Board and the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch was formed in 1898.

Who are the staff and volunteers

Introduction!!!

The staff are educated people with different skills and mind sets, people like animal trainers to former volunteers are examples of the people who work in the organization. BC SPCA also offers volunteer positions to the public in different locations.

How is it funded

They are funded by the government and the donations that the public makes to them.

Contribution to the Community

  • They give food and shelter to animals without owners until they find an owner.

Provided Services

  • Oversees animal cruelty investigations, advocacy and education for youth.
  • Three animal hospitals
  • Two spay/neuter clinics
  • 36 branches which care for abused and homeless animals, until they are adopted.

Why is it important

  • Food & shelter: BC SPCA provides animals without owners shelter and food, without them these animals wouldn't have a safe place to stay.
  • Platform: BC SPCA also provide a platform to the public so people can find animals easier.

Why SPCA?

When thinking about charities, I instantly got reminded of SPCA and UNICEF. After doing some research I choose to do SPCA because it had a branch in BC and UNICEF was more in Toronto rather than Vancouver.

Standing out

The main factor that made SPCA stand out for me was their cause. I've always loved animals and liked the idea of helping them. I believe in SPCA because I've met many people that got their pet from SPCA. In addition I believe that SPCA provides a safe platform for potential owners and animals to meet.

Examples

I have a close friend who has 3 dogs. All of the dogs are from SPCA and each of them have a different story. One of the dogs is a survivor of abusive owners. The second dog had owners that didn't like her and would sometimes ignore her. The third dog was found alone in the woods as a small puppy. Without SPCA my friend and these 3 dogs would never meet.
