3rd Workshop

by Carlos Teles & Laís Leite

What is the connection between group dynamics, emotional intelligence and language learning?

The more emotionally literate learners (and teachers) become, the better the classroom dynamics will be.

Emotional literacy is the basis for perceiving and communicating emotions just as verbal literacy is the basis for reading and writing.

?

Sharing

Emotional Literacy makes daily emotions and social life themselves topics, instead of treating these most important aspects of a learner's day as irrelevant interruptions to a lesson.

Try to make feelings become the content of the English lesson!

A group that really understands its members is a group bonded for life. A group that can discuss feelings releases stress and achieves better academically.

Can you remember a class in which you brought up a boring, unrealistic subject from the book in a way that made it more realistic?

Concepts

Which activities have promoted the success we all aim to achieve?

Classroom dynamics are the building of a classroom community and the creation of a positive classroom culture.

Which ones haven't? (So the others can avoid them...)

Emotional intelligence is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions in ourselves and in our relationships.

Using a language involves taking risks and students won't take risks if they feel nervous or lack confidence.
