A man named Uncle Septimus grows his beard until it is VERY long. The beard amused his grandchildren, helped catch fish, swept the floor for Aunt Rachel, and kept the chickens and animals at the farm fed. The beard was starting to cause trouble once it started to get longer. One day, when Uncle Septimus was plowing the field, his beard got caught in a twister and they never saw him again. Some people say that the Spanish moss on trees were the remains of his beard, and others state that he is still trying to find his way back home. However, in the end Aunt Rachel has to except that he is gone, though hearing stories of him and seeing the Spanish moss makes it seem as he never left as stated.
