Summary

Father by The Front Bottoms

About The Front Bottoms

The band usually doesn't explain what their songs are about. They leave it up to the listener to give their own meaning. Music can be a way to vent so they write their songs for the listener to vent about their own problems.

Although there are theories and some background about the meaning of their songs. For "Father" listeners think it's about Mat Uychich, the drummer, and former member Brian Uychcih's struggle with their own dad. Their dad left his family and left the brothers in a world of hurt and confusion. Brian was seeking comfort in his girlfriend but found little to none as they were simply in high school. while he was learning to live with a broken family, she was struggling with grades and other irrelevant high school matters. He felt like she was high school and he was more like real life as they song says.

-They're an American Indie Rock band.

-Four current members include Brian Sella, Mat Uychich, Tom Warren and Ciaran O'Donnell (left to right below)

-They originated in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey

-currently they have five albums with multiple EP's and singles.

Importance

Song Lyrics

This song is important to me because it was the first song I fell in love with by this band. It introduced me to a whole new kind of music I never really bothered with before. Now it's been two years since I started listening to them and next month I'm going to see them in concert.

A long, long time ago my great, great, great, great grandfather

took something that did not belong to him

And that is why today I have an eagle in my veins

I am part Native American

And I am leaving as soon as I come,

As soon as I come you will probably forget my name

I hope I fall asleep at the wheel and crash my car (on the way home)

Or I could just stay here, because

you look good tonight girlfriend,

Can I sleep in your bed?

And when I crawl out in the morning,

Can I stay inside your head?

'Cause you were high school

And I was just more like real life

And you were okay, okay as a girlfriend

But I was just more like his wife

I'll wear the makeup

I'll do the pushups

I'll do whatever he wants all night

'Cause you were okay, okay as a girlfriend

But I was just more like real life.

I have this dream that I am hitting my dad with a baseball bat

And he is screaming and crying for help

And maybe halfway through it has more to do with me killing him

Then it ever did protecting myself

And I believe that yeah, dad, maybe no one is perfect

But I believe that you are pushing your luck

It just sucks it played out like this

A terrible movie and you can tell none of the actors even give a f***

But you look good tonight girlfriend,

Can I sleep in your bed

And when I crawl out in the morning,

Can I stay inside your head

'Cause you were high school

And I was just more like real life

And you were okay, okay as a girlfriend

But I was just more like his wife

I'll do the pushups

I'll wear the makeup

I'll do whatever he wants all night

'Cause you were okay, okay as a girlfriend

But I was just more like real life.
