Discriminatory Abuse
Discriminatory abuse involves harassment, slurs or similar unfair treatment due to their race, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or gender identity
Sexual abuse is unwanted sexual activity, with force, making threats or taking advantage of victims not able to give consent. It can include grooming, child sexual exploitation, being forced to look at indecent images as well as assault and rape
Cyberbullying is any type of bullying which takes place via the internet. This can be using a smartphone, tablet or laptop/PC, and can be through the medium of text messages, instant messages/chat facilities, email, social media, forums or video game chat facilities. A cyberbully could be someone the individual knows, or a complete stranger.
Physical abuse is any act which intentionally causes injury, harm or intimidation to another person by way of bodily contact. Physical abuse includes fractured or broken bones, burns, severe and/or frequent bruises, and any other major physical harm.
Emotional abuse is any act of confinement, isolation, verbal assault, humiliation, intimidation, or any other treatment which may decrease the sense of identity, dignity, and self-worth. Emotional abuse is also known as psychological abuse. People who suffer from emotional abuse tend to have very low self-esteem, show personality changes, and may even become depressed, anxious, or suicidal.
Financial abuse is the illegal use of a person's property, money or valuables. It includes theft, fraud, bribery and blackmail, or false representation, and means that the abuser can control the individual's access to economic resources, which lowers the victim's capacity to support themselves and forces them to depend on the perpetrator financially.
Domestic abuse is violent or aggressive behaviour within the home. This can take the form of physical, emotional or sexual abuse (or any combination of these), and can have a long-lasting psychological affect on witnesses as well as the impact on the direct victims
Neglect is the failure to provide the necessary care, assistance, guidance or attention that meets basic human needs- either intentionally, or through lack of care or interest
