Emotional

Psychological security

  • Feeling safe, not being anxious or afraid

Approval

  • By giving praise for actions and behaviour individuals increase their self esteem and enable someone to feel valued.

Emotional

Dignity

Treating individuals with respect making sure they are not degraded or made to look foolish.

Privacy

Every person has a right to be unobserved by others, be undisturbed and have personal space.

Equitable treatment

  • Treating individuals in a fair way, this may not mean treating them in the same way however as individuals have different needs

Autonomy

  • Is the ability of an individual to make choices and decisions about their lives without coercion from others. It enables them to take control over their lives by asserting their opinions.

Physical

Physical life quality factors relate directly to the body not the mind

  • Supporting individuals to have the opportunity to be around others. Contact with other people reduces the chances of social isolation.

Social Support

  • Social support is having people to speak to and share troubles with. It is having support and encouragement from others. It provides individuals with emotional security.

Psychological life quality factors correspond to the emotional, social and intellectual parts of an individuals life

Effective communication

  • An individual being able to effectively communicate their needs. It also relates to health and social care workers being able to effectively communicate with their clients.

Social and Intellectual

The definition of "quality of life can mean different things to different people of different cultural backgrounds"

A life quality factor is an element of an individual's life that enables them to maintain wellbeing.

These factors fall into two categories

Intellectual

Stimulation

  • Stimulation is simply having something to do that occupies the mind keeping the mind alert and active.

Occupation

  • This simply means having something to do that passes the time. This promotes a sense of well being by the feeling of doing something that is worthwhile. This also can address social isolation and encourage physical activity.

Quality of life refers to the general well being of individuals and societies.

The World Health Organisation define quality of life as "an individual's perception of their position in life in context of the culture and value systems in which they life, in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns."

  • Identify and describe the impact that the absence of life quality factors can have on an individual

  • Conclude and value that to care effectively each life quality factor must be considered, respected and applied in practice

  • Generate strategies to address the absence of life quality factors and their impact
