A lot of people settled to Texas in 1800's because they were open to slavery and had Tobacco farms. He took over his fathers settlements when he died.
It was not so good during the time Stephen lived ( 1800's ) because there was a lot of drug trading between borders. He also got arrested by the Mexican Government once because they thought he was forming a resistance to rebel.
Stephen F Austin was very successful. He brought hundreds of people to Texas. Austin used the poor economic systems of the other states to lure the people in to coming.
