Mainstreaming Gender in Trade Capacity-Building Projects

“The primary objective of the Organization shall be the promotion and acceleration of industrial development in the developing countries with a view to assisting in the establishment of a new international economic order.

UNIDO prioritizes gender equality, which it recognizes as beneficial for “sustained economic growth and inclusive and sustainable industrial development.”

Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Development for Poverty Reduction

Entrepreneurship and Poverty Reduction

Adoption of the UNIDO Constitution on 1985

An environment that fosters entrepreneurship often leads to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Viceminister for Economy, Industry and Commerce explained that they are powering cooperation resources in the Brunca region in order to estaplish a strategic plan with the objective of reactivating the development of the productive sector.

Agribusiness Development and Poverty Reduction

Agribusiness activities include the supply of agricultural inputs, the production and transformation of agricultural products and their distribution to final consumers.

Access to capital is a critical ingredient for agribusiness and entrepreneurship development.

UNIDO tackles agribusiness and entrepreneurship through the development of training programs that promote entrepreneurial activities and industry best practices to local practitioners.

Recent Sessions and Current Priorities

UNIDO has organized ISID Forums occurring on a regular basis.

The most recent meeting of the IDB was held in June 2015 in Vienna, Austria.

UNIDO also promotes ISID through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Promoting Resource-Efficient and Low-Carbon Industrial Production

  • Industries still remain carbon-intensive and inefficient.
  • Increase efforts to achieve the SDGs in the upcoming years.
  • The scope and quality of technical assistance and technology transfer must be improved.
  • Incentives for national governments promoting the use of renewable energy sources, the increase of industrial energy efficiency, and the overall shift towards lowcarbon development.
  • Less energy being used by industries means more energy for other uses, which can benefit human development and poverty reduction.

Café de Costa Rica will implement the first-of-its-kind agricultural Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA): a set of mitigation of greenhouse effect gasses, energy-saving technologies and agronomical practices, to address ecological concerns while maintaining business growth. These actions will help coffee growers and millers from all regions tackle climate change without sacrificing local economies and overall profitability.
